Ribosomal protein S7 signature

Description:

Ribosomal protein S7 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit. In Escherichia coli, S7 is known to bind directly to part of the 3'end of 16S ribosomal RNA. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2,3], groups:

  • Eubacterial S7.
  • Algal and plant chloroplast S7.
  • Cyanelle S7.
  • Archaebacterial S7.
  • Plant mitochondrial S7.
  • Mammalian S5.
  • Plant S5.
  • Caenorhabditis elegans S5 (T05E11.1).

As a signature pattern, we selected the best conserved region located in the N-terminal section of these proteins.
