Its sequence is moderately conserved between prokaryotes (gene folC) and eukaryotes. We developed two signature patterns based on the conserved regions which are rich in glycine residues and could play a role in the catalytical activity and/or in substrate binding. -Consensus pattern: [LIVMFY]-x-[LIVM]-[STAG]-G-T-[NK]-G-K-x-[STG]-x(4)-{A}-x- {EAD}-[LIVM](2)-x(3,4)-[GSKQT] -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL. -Other sequence(s) detected in Swiss-Prot: 8. -Consensus pattern: [LIVMFY](2)-[EK]-x-G-[LIVM]-[GA]-G-x(2)-D-x-[GST]-x- [LIVM](2) -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL. -Other sequence(s) detected in Swiss-Prot: NONE. -Last update: December 2004 / Patterns and text revised.
