Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor signature

Description

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) [1,2] is a cytokine that acts in hematopoiesis by stimulating the growth and differentiation of hematopoietic precursor cells from various lineages, including granulocytes, macrophages, eosinophils and erythrocytes.

GM-CSF is a glycoprotein of about 120 amino acid residues that contains four conserved cysteine residues involved in two disulfide bonds, as shown in the following schematic representation.

                                                   +---------------+

'*': position of the pattern.

As a signature pattern, we selected the region that includes the second and third conserved cysteines.
