Bax inhibitor-1 family signature

Description

Bax inhibitor-1 (BI-1) (gene TEGT) [1] is a suppressor of apoptosis that interacts with BCL2 and BCL-X. It is evolutionary related conserved and is found in all higher eukaryotes. It is also similar to the following proteins:

  • Escherichia coli hypothetical protein yccA and HI0044, the corresponding Haemophilus influenzae protein.
  • A probable Pseudomonas aeruginosa ortholog of yccA.

These are proteins of about 25 Kd which seem to contain seven transmembrane domains. We developed a signature pattern that correspond to a region that starts with the beginning of the third transmembrane domain and ends in the middle of the fourth one.

Last update:

April 2006 / Pattern revised.
