Peptidase family C21 domain profile

Description

The family Tymoviridae comprises the genus Tymovirus, from which it derives its name, the genus Marafivirus and the genus Maculavirus [1,E1]. Members of the family are plant viruses that have the following traits in common: icosahedral virion structure, a monopartite single-stranded RNA genome with a very high cytidine content and a similar genome organization. The replication strategy encompasses post-translational proteolytic cleavage of the polypeptide encoded by ORF1 by a peptidase family C21 domain [E2]. The peptidase family C21 domain is a papain-like proteinase with catalytic cysteine and histidine residues [2,3].

Some proteins known to contain a peptidase family C21 domain are listed below:

  • Turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Grapevine fleck virus (GFkV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Oat blue dwarf virus (OBDV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Maize rayado fino virus (MRFV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Olive latent virus 3 (OLV-3) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Eggplant mosaic virus (EMV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Ononis yellow mosaic virus (OYMV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Kennedya yellow mosaic virus (KYMV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).
  • Erysimum latent virus (ELV) replication-associated polyprotein (RP).

The profile we developed covers the entire peptidase family C21 domain.
