{PDOC00386} {PS00475; RIBOSOMAL_L15} {BEGIN} *********************************** * Ribosomal protein L15 signature * *********************************** Ribosomal protein L15 is one of the proteins from the large ribosomal subunit. In Escherichia coli, L15 is known to bind the 23S rRNA. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1], groups: - Eubacterial L15. - Plant chloroplast L15 (nuclear-encoded). - Archaebacterial L15. - Vertebrate L27a. - Tetrahymena thermophila L29. - Fungi L27a (L29, CRP-1, CYH2). L15 is a protein of 144 to 154 amino-acid residues. As a signature pattern, we selected a conserved region in the C-terminal section of these proteins. -Consensus pattern: [KR]-[LIVM](2)-[GASL]-x-[GT]-x-[LIVMA]-x(2,5)-[LIVMF]-x- [LIVMF]-x(3,4)-[LIVMFCA]-[ST]-x(2)-A-x(3)-[LIVM]-x(3)-G -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL, except for Chlamydia trachomatis, H.pylori and Mycoplasma genitalium L15. -Other sequence(s) detected in Swiss-Prot: archebacterial ribosomal proteins from the L18e family. -Last update: April 2006 / Pattern revised.
