Ribosomal protein S10 signature


Ribosomal protein S10 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit. In Escherichia coli, S10 is known to be involved in binding tRNA to the ribosomes. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1], groups:

  • Eubacterial S10.
  • Algal chloroplast S10.
  • Cyanelle S10.
  • Archaebacterial S10.
  • Marchantia polymorpha and Prototheca wickerhamii mitochondrial S10.
  • Arabidopsis thaliana mitochondrial S10 (nuclear encoded).
  • Vertebrate S20.
  • Plant S20.
  • Yeast URP2.

S10 is a protein of about 100 amino-acid residues. As a signature pattern, we selected a conserved region located in the center of these proteins.
