Ribosomal protein S19 signature

Description

Ribosomal protein S19 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit. In Escherichia coli, S19 is known to form a complex with S13 that binds strongly to 16S ribosomal RNA. S19 belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2], groups:

  • Eubacterial S19.
  • Algal and plant chloroplast S19.
  • Cyanelle S19.
  • Archaebacterial S19.
  • Plant mitochondrial S19.
  • Eukaryotic S15 ('rig' protein).

S19 is a protein of 88 to 144 amino-acid residues. Our signature pattern is based on the few conserved positions located in the C-terminal section of these proteins.
