PROSITE documentation PDOC00311 [for PROSITE entry PS00360]

Ribosomal protein S9 signature

Ribosomal protein S9 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2], groups:

  • Eubacterial S9.
  • Algal chloroplast S9.
  • Cyanelle S9.
  • Archaebacterial S9.
  • Mammalian S16.
  • Plant S16.
  • Yeast mitochondrial ribosomal S9.

As a signature pattern, we selected a conserved region containing many charged residues and located in the central section of these proteins.

Last update:

April 2006 / Pattern revised.
