Ribosomal protein S19e signature





Description

A number of eukaryotic and archaebacterial ribosomal proteins can be grouped on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2]. One of these families consists of:

  • Mammalian S19.
  • Drosophila S19.
  • Ascaris lumbricoides S19g (ALEP-1) and S19s.
  • Plants S19.
  • Yeast RPS19A/RPS19B (RP55A/RP55B).
  • Aspergillus S16.
  • Archebacterial S19e.

These proteins have 143 to 155 amino acids. As a signature pattern, we selected a well conserved stretch of 20 residues in the C-terminal part of these proteins.
