Ribosomal protein L9 signature





Description

Ribosomal protein L9 is one of the proteins from the large ribosomal subunit. In Escherichia coli, L9 is known to bind directly to the 23S rRNA. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2], groups:

  • Eubacterial L9.
  • Cyanobacterial L9.
  • Plant chloroplast L9 (nuclear-encoded).
  • Red algal chloroplast L9.

As a signature pattern, we have selected a conserved region, located in the N-terminal section of these proteins.
