A number of eukaryotic and archaebacterial ribosomal proteins can be grouped on the basis of sequence similarities [1]. One of these families consists of:
These proteins have either about 220 amino acids (in eukaryotes) or about 125 amino acids (in archebacteria). As a signature pattern we selected a conserved stretch which is located in the N-terminal section and which is rich in positively charged residues.
