PROSITE documentation PDOC51806DOG1 domain profile
The DELAY OF GERMINATION1 (DOG1) protein is a positive regulator for the establishment and maintenance of primary seed dormancy in plants. DOG1 is involved in transducing maternal environmental conditions during seed development into effects on seed dormancy and in the loss of dormancy through dry after-ripening or moist chilling. DOG1 belongs to a small family of proteins that can be classified into five distinct clades (1-5). Of these, DOG1-like proteins in clades 1-4 have a similar architecture to DOG1, sharing the same domain. In contrast, the clade 5 proteins are distinct: they harbor an additional bZIP domain (see <PDOC00036>), that interacts with DNA, and play a major role in disease resistance and development. The DOG1 domain is formed by Glutamine rich regions QI and QII and acidic amino acids and is likely to be a transcriptional activation domain [1,2,3,4,5].
Some proteins known to contain a DOG1 domain are listed below:
- Arabidopsis thaliana DOG1, functions in seed dormancy and sugar signalling.
- Arabidopsis thaliana PERIANTHIA (PAN), a bZIP protein involved in the determination of floral organ number.
- Arabidopsis thaliana TGA1, a transcriptional activator that binds specifically to the DNA sequence 5'-TGACG-3'.
- Tobacco TGA1a, a transcriptional activator that binds specifically to the DNA sequence 5'-TGACG-3'.
- Wheat HBP-1b protein, a transcriptional activator that binds specifically to the DNA sequence 5'-TGACG-3'.
The profile we developed covers the entire DOG1 domain.
